Request for Proposals

Author: Jessica Sandler, PETA International Science Consortium Ltd

The PETA International Science Consortium Ltd. (PISC), recently organized an international workshop that was held at the US EPA headquarters in Washington, DC on February 24-25, 2015. The workshop included experts from different sectors and disciplines to discuss the technical details for the development of an in vitro test to predict the development of pulmonary fibrosis in cells co-cultured at the air-liquid interface following exposure to aerosolized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). During the workshop, experts made recommendations on cell types, exposure systems, endpoints and dosimetry considerations required to develop the in vitro model for hazard identification of MWCNTs.

The next step is the development and preliminary assessment of the reliability and relevance of this in vitro test method and PISC will fund this research. A request for proposals from qualified laboratories has been distributed and can be viewed here: http://www.piscltd.org.uk/nanoworkshop/. The deadline for proposal submission is May 29th. Please submit proposals, or any questions, to Dr. Monita Sharma at MonitaS@piscltd.org.uk.
