Open position at PCRM: Science Policy Specialist

The Physicians Committee is looking for a Science Policy Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate for this position will have a basic knowledge of toxicological and pharmacological concepts including in vivo, in vitro, and in silico test methods and familiarity with the laws, regulations, and practices related to efficacy and toxicology testing. A working knowledge of FDA regulations and practices is a plus. He or she will use the Toxicology and Regulatory Testing Department’s established best practices to grow a network of industry professionals, design educational opportunities and materials targeted to industry and regulators, and lobby the FDA and federal legislators to modernize regulatory methods by replacing and reducing animal use in FDA regulations and recommendations and industry practices.

The Science Policy Specialist will be expected to work creatively to modernize pharmaceutical science in corporate, government, and university research and testing programs by:

  • Traveling to and organizing scientific conferences and meetings
  • Presenting and publishing literature-quality scientific work
  • Analyzing and providing comment on scientific and policy documents
  • Interpreting scientific literature on toxicological and pharmaceutical research and testing and communicating its significance to a variety of audience levels
  • Working with the Physicians Committee’s Communications department to promote work through social, traditional, and trade media
  • Building relationships with scientists at drug, cosmetic, and other companies, to provide advice, education, and collaborative opportunities to implement new nonanimal methods
  • Providing advice on legislation

This is a full-time position located at the Physicians Committee’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.

We are looking for an independent visionary who will tackle his or her work with a sense of urgency and with persistence. If you share these qualities, have three or more years of experience in pharmacology or toxicology, have an advanced degree in public health, pharmacology, toxicology, or another relevant scientific field, and are passionate about the Physicians Committee’s mission to promote alternatives to the use of animals in research and testing, we’d like to hear from you.
