Japanese Association for Animal Cell Technology (JAACT)

The JAACT is “an arena for the exchange of academic information by researchers and engineers specializing in science and technology concerning animal cells…ranging from cell cultivation and analysis of cell characteristics to production and control of useful materials, cell therapy and the creation of artificial cells.”

Genes and Environment is the society’s official journal.
Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA)
Japanese Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (JSAAE)

The JSAAE, founded in 1989, is an academic research organization with the purpose “to promote research, development, education, and studies related to animal welfare and alternatives to animal experiments, disseminating the results of these activities.” Dr. Yasuo Ohno, NIHS, is the current President of the JSAAE.

The JSAAE holds annual meetings of international interest; their 22nd Annual Meeting was held in November 2009. The JSAAE website also has links to events of the JSAAE, the World Congresses on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences, the Korean Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (KSAAE), and others.

AATEX (Alternatives to Animal Testing and EXperimentation) is the official journal of the JSAAE.
Japanese Teratology Society (JTS)

The Developmental Neurtoxicology Committee of the JTS provided comments on the OECD Guideline 426 for Developmental Neurotoxicity. The JTS holds annual meetings; 2010 will be their 50th Annual Meeting.

Society of Japanese Pharmacopoeia (SJP)

The SJP is a non-profit foundation established in 1956 and authorized by the MHLW. It was established to “promote dissemination of the Pharmacopoeia and other specifications of drugs, maintenance and improvement in the efficacy, safety and quality of pharmaceutical drugs, and collection and provision of information concerning the proper use of drugs.” The current version of The Japanese Pharmacopoeia is the 15th Edition (English version).
