ICCVAM Public Forum Slides and Webcast Recording Available

Presentation slides and a recording of the webcast of the May 25 ICCVAM public forum are now available on the NICEATM website.

At the May 25 meeting at the National Institutes of Health, representatives from 12 ICCVAM member agencies were joined by stakeholder group representatives and over 100 webcast viewers. Agencies presented updates on activities related to the development and validation of test methods and approaches that may replace, reduce, or refine animal use. Stakeholder presentations praised recent progress made by ICCVAM and its member agencies towards replacing required animal tests with non-animal alternatives, and suggested future activities and areas that should receive increased focus.

In his update, NICEATM Director Warren Casey, Ph.D., described initial efforts towards developing a U.S. roadmap for replacement of animal use, and invited stakeholder participation in the effort. Casey described the roadmap as critical to ensuring that current efforts to develop non-animal testing systems such as organs-on-a-chip result in meaningful reductions in animal use. The roadmap will be the main focus of the September 27-28 meeting of ICCVAM’s advisory group, the Scientific Advisory Committee on Alternative Toxicological Methods (SACATM). The SACATM meeting will be open to the public to attend in person or view via webcast; more information is available on the NTP website.
