Get yours now: ECHA guidance on fulfilling REACH dossiers using alternatives to animal testing
The European Chemicals Agency has published guidance on the use of alternatives to animal testing to fulfill REACH dossier obligations. The Guidance is targeted toward small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and intended to provide guidance in time for the 2o18 deadline.
The deadline of 31 May 2018 concerns companies that manufacture or import substances in low volumes, between 1-100 tonnes a year. It is expected that this will be quite different from the two previous ones (2010, 2013), in terms of both the number of registrations and the type of registrants: ECHA’s current working estimation is that up to 60 000 registrations will be prepared for up to 25 000 substances, which is three times more than for either of the previous deadlines.
Therefore, the full use and implication of alternatives to fulfill information requirements for this deadline has the potential to save a large number of animals.
